UNIFYING CONTENT MANAGEMENT ACROSS DIVERSE BRANDS
REV Group, a world leader in specialty vehicle manufacturing, oversees 26 brands across seven different divisions. Their portfolio of websites was a quagmire of proprietary platforms and approaches. We worked with REV to develop a more centralized content management solution that provided global control over some content while allowing each brand local control over its own content in a manner that preserved the individual brand identities yet also provided consistency across the entire portfolio.
The new websites preserve brand autonomy while sharing an identical backend admin. All also feature unified information published in a global headless CMS.
BALANCING BRAND AND ENTERPRISE CONTROL
Our approach utilized individual WordPress installations for each brand that are connected to a headless CMS for global control of enterprise-level content such as training and events. A custom developed plug-in creates seamless syndication of content to all the brand sites. Administrative authorities were created to preserve branded components of the sites from being compromised by content administrators. And we developed more than 70 configurable components to allow for individuality to be brought into each brand’s website.
Our unique approach of cloning a master site admin for each division brought with it all the configurable components necessary for the division websites – over
70 components in all.
WINNING OVER BRAND MANAGERS
Perhaps the biggest win of this project was winning over the brand managers. At first, the individual brands were understandably reluctant to cede any “corporate control” over their websites. But our highly configurable approach brought them a powerful new set of pre-built components to deliver their product information in more unique and user-centric ways. This led to much higher levels of conversion on the brand websites and, in the end, brand managers who converted to advocates for the project.
