Milwaukee, WI – (August 6, 2014) – Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Dan Nelson Jr., president and CEO of Nelson Schmidt Inc., officiated the grand opening of 600 EAST Café & Business Center Monday, August 4 with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“The grand opening of 600 EAST Café & Business Center is a tremendous addition to the neighborhood as Northwestern Mutual’s new high-rise and Irgens 833 East development, among other exciting projects, are under construction nearby,” Barrett said.

“600 EAST Café & Business Center will contribute to the revitalization of Milwaukee’s central business district and fill a need for local retail at the east end of Wisconsin Avenue, particularly quality dining and meeting spaces,” Nelson added.

In 2006, Nelson purchased the building, located at 600 East Wisconsin Avenue, with plans to extensively restore the 100-year-old brick, steel and Douglas fir structure. The following year, Nelson Schmidt Inc., a leading considered purchase marketing communication agency headquartered in Milwaukee, relocated to the second and third floors of the building. Planning for 600 EAST Café & Business Center began last summer with construction beginning in October. A soft opening of 600 EAST Café took place in May and once the exterior renovations concluded in July, both the dining and meetings spaces were open to the public.

Today, the 600 EAST Café offers locally-sourced breakfast, lunch and coffee items including Anodyne and Colectivo Coffees, Scortino’s Bakery and other leading brands from Wisconsin. The 600 EAST Business Center features one 14-person executive conference room, two meeting rooms and five offices, with high-tech capabilities and a full-menu catering service.

To celebrate the grand opening ceremony, there will be daily specials for the remainder of this week, including:

  • Wednesday: Free Pound Cake
  • Thursday: Free J’Latte or J’Mocha blended drinks
  • Friday: Free sample of Baked Oatmeal
